Most people assume major league baseball game sites to be limited to a participant’s city. But early in the 20th century there were local ordinances in many cities prohibiting professional activities on the Sabbath. These so-called “blue laws” restricted teams from playing on Sunday. For several years the Clevelanders played Sunday home games elsewhere in Ohio. Therefore, on Sunday, June 8, 1902, Baltimore defeated Cleveland 6 – 2 in the only major league regular season game played in Dayton, Ohio. Rosters of these two teams included 7 member of Baseball’s Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. |
